You mean just downloading the database, or do you mean the files from FTP? The latter is around 250 MB. An exported SQL file from the database is 19.6 MB.

not the db, i meant to click on the browser "save page as" or similar,

Oh, the HTML is around 50 kB, but Mootools and some other JavaScript is around 600 kB.

By enabling some logging, i see that indeed FLEXIcontent creation time for items is about 3 seconds (not including other times).

Will look into this more

yes i notice this on j2.5 mootools is very biger !!!
because all language are in on file ...
you can compress it with only language needed ... but it's not compatible with update
you need to do this for all update
