Migration roadmap, from J!1.5 to J!2.5

Do you have any date at least for flexicontent to be reday for joomla 2.5 ? maybe we can begin to prepare new web based on 2.5 and once the migration ready, we'll migrate data from 1.5 to 2.5

Honestly, I LOVE flexicontent, but it worries me that it is so far behind the development cycle.

The lack of response and slowness is why I haven't used it in many projects lately and why I actually defected back to K2 for a project of my own, where I had hoped to use FC.

It doesn't build confidence that FC is still not 2.5 ready, and makes me feel like developing with it will end up leaving me stuck eventually.

It's too bad. I think it's the most logical and flexible option available.

mmm, FLEXIcontent is more feature rich and flexible than K2, which is great component too, although K2 has much more 3rd addons than FLEXIcontent.

We have given more time to improving existing features/performance and adding new features to FC mainly because we use it for our projects,
rather than working on J1.7/J2.5 version (which believe me we spent countless hours on it too)

FOR J2.5 the ACL enhancements go much further than just the standard core.* ACTIONs, will add more in FC v2.1 too.

WHAT IS BAD is that we donot yet have the final version of v1.5.6 for J1.5 and for J2.5

But this week we are testing for final version of v1.5.6/v2.0 , start of next week we have a final version ... even if it has a few bugs

Also we need more FAQ articles so that user will know more of the potential of old and new features of FLEXIcontent.

Iunderstand. I have said I PREFER FC to K2. A LOT.

Thing is, people like me who develop 2-3 new Joomla sites each month need things to stay on track with new versions.

As of now, I cannot develop a single new site with the benefits of 2.5 and FC.

That's a fact of life. Another fact of life is that when I start using something, I invest in it, with custom code and add-ons.

At that point, it's fiscally responsible to continue using it, even if another program MIGHT be better in the future.

Not to mention the time getting familiar with products for each upgrade.

I understand wanting to improve the versions YOUR sites are on, but to let your component lag behind others in moving towards the future is, to me, short-sighted.

I want to use FC. I prefer it. I would use it over everything else, all the time. Except I can't. It's not ready, and I have deadlines.

While I can understand your frustration, you are complaining to the wrong people.

The FLEXIcontent project had gone basically dormant.
The founder and lead developer has had some life changes and is now only minimally involved in the day-to-day development and this website.
Development on FLEXIcontent had stopped dead.

FLEXIcontent development has been revived almost single-handedly by Georgios (ggppdk) with some help from Suriya (enjoyman).
A HUGE amount of work has been done.
Many, many bugs have been fixed.
And many, many new features have been added.
Most of this is being done by one person.

Development has not "kept pace" because the project was basically dead.
I also originally got involved with the project because it had such great promise.
And drifted away as the development stalled.
Now I am back, and very hopeful for the future.

Development is making great progress now.
We only recently got more access to both the forum and the website, so we are making progress there also.
There have been more changes and improvements to the forum and website in the last couple months then there have been in the last year or two.

So, please have a little bit more patience.
And a bit more understanding.
I too had great plans for websites based on the original plans or roadmap for FLEXIcontent development.
Other options had to be found when development stalled.

The project has a lot of catching-up to do.
The initial project momentum was unfortunately lost.
It is going to take time to regain some of that mind-share and momentum.

It is free, open source, and incredible.
Progress is now being made on a fairly consistent basis.
Please stay tuned, but be patient.


About Joomla 2.5:
Joomla 2.5 is currently like Joomla 1.5 was at the beginning.
It is going to be awhile before is it anywhere near what could be called stable.
Joomla 1.5.9 was about where it finally settled down to "stable."
This whole thing of no longer supporting J1.5 without a reasonable transition window or timeframe is just dumb . . . and is going to be an ongoing mess.
I would not be rushing to upgrade or build new websites on J2.5.
If you do, expect issues and delays.
For many the real world tipping point has not yet been reached.

And it is going to be awhile before FLEXIcontent 2.0 on J2.5 is going to be getting all the development attention.
Just a basic hours-in-the-day analysis tells us this is going take some time.
Please keep this in mind when deciding how to meet your current deadlines.
