and the fields are empty

the user is an author and he has almost all the permissions

If you edit the item in backend and frontend e.g. as super admin,
does it not appear to be the same (=the latest version)?

If you make changes to the item and then you re-edit, are the changes you have made lost when the item is reopened by the item edit form ??

i can not try that
because when i open the item for editing it after creation

i see no data in fields except the description field which contains text from another items
