Think if you have changed something recently,
like unpublishing a category or something that you can think is relevant, e.g. installed some relevant system plugin.

i can only suggest these:
-- check that the category (not just main category!!!) through which you try to view article/item is published (when you are view an FC item you declare in the URL through which category you are viewing the item since the item can belong to multiple categories)
-- test with a different template , maybe some template override , or some template code is causing the problem.
-- disable SEF and test
-- since the FC item has no menu item pointing to it, maybe a menu item is chosen that is not or has no public access, see more on my next POST.

Regards

I think we found what the problem is. When you there is no menu item pointing to a FLEXIcontent item , then one such menu item must be chosen.

The chosen menu item is either not published or does not have public access, (or this menu item is published and has public access but points to an unpublished category ?)

Since you installed the latest FLEXIcontent version, go to FLEXIcontent Dashboard and open FLEXIcontent global configuration. Scroll to SEF options and set the option "Default Menu Itemid for URL" to a published menu item id that has public access.
And then set "Add above to Flexicontent URLs" to "Yes, if no other appropriate found".
TEST.
Also try the other options this select drop-down has.

I am not sure why a menu item (unpublished or without public access) is chosen by joomla/FLEXIcontent.

There are no areas of this site that is for registered users only and all categories, and sections are public

I have:
1. turned off sef and tested - no change
2. i have tried importing Joomla Structure - no change
3. tested with a different template - no change

From the Global Configuration - i cannot see SEF options - so cant test this

This is strange as nothing is set for registered users only

THX for help

Have you gone back to v1.5.4?

Please reinstall v1.5.6 the new Global parameter is exists in v1.5.6

Also,
-- i would ask you which menu item id (FLEXIcontent menu item id) is chosen but since it redirects to login, you can not say right?
-- if you login are you able to see the item? in this case can you look at the url and see which menu item id was used? then go to menu manager and check access to this menu item ?

Hi - I just wanted let you know and thank you for your help in resolving this issue

The issue has been caused by a Core Joomla Menu Item for listing all articles in a menu system (not the main menu but a different admin menu)only being visible for Registered users.

So the fact that the list of articles is only viewable by registered users meant that the article couldnt be viewed either - this is ridiculous functionality for Joomla but it appears to be a long standing issue - I was trying to allow the the admins to have a list view of a category of articles! BUT NO - this cant be done

THANKS for your time!

Exactly if append to a FLEXIcontent page (item view / category view / tag view), a menu item id that has access restrictions, the page will get the access restrictions of the menu item, despite the fact that the page itself has public access.
