I have prefixed images/js/css paths of FLEXIcontent fields with JURI:root() to be more compatible with joomla plugins that do page manipulation , e.g. css/js aggregators/compressors

Maybe you have some joomla plugin you have, is manipulating the html code after it is created e.g. to unify the css / js files etc

Try the latest build to see if it helps:

I installed the nightly build but this didn't help - the image path is still relative. Where can I hardcode the path as a temporary solution?
I completely uninstalled some of my plugins with no success. Some extensions are left but I don't think they are responsible for the problem (but you never know...) except maybe JCE?

I must apollogize, it was my fault: While testing with and without SH404sef I temporariyl disabled Joomlas' system SEF plugin and obviously forgot to enable it again. After enabling the Plugin images now display properly.
