Another point to be more precise.
This behavior appears when we create more than 2 level of menu.
Let say we have lvl0 with cat=fruit, alias fruit, level 1 cat= agrum alias=agrum and level 3 cat=lemon alias lemon, we should have for an item the url :
domain.com/fruit/agrum/lemon/ID-item-alias and we obtain :
domain.com/fruit/agrum/lemon/id-lemon-cat-alias/id-item-alias

If I delete the third level of menu so (cat=lemon) I got :
domain.com/fruit/agrum/ID-lemon/ID-item-alias
Appanrently, I soon as we set a thrid level of menu , we have dupplicate cat on URL.

honestly i still do not understand how the pathway's feature is working.
Thanks in advance,

If you have only a few dozens of items or you have a group of items whose URL is important, then i suggest that you create one joomla menu item per flexicontent item. ALSO you could ask/train your author if he/she has backend access to create one menu item for every item he/she creates

NOTE:
-- 1. You do not have to display these menu items anywhere, meaning you do not need to display their menu via a menu module e.g. place them in FLEXIcontent hidden menu which is not displayed by any module
-- 2. BUT these menu entries MUST BE PUBLISHED and have access level public or same as the item.
-- 3. If items exist in multiple categories, then when selecting the items for the menu entries first filter by item's category of your choice, then select item, this way the menu entry will also have the correct category id, and you will avoid seeing the category id in the url.

For this you need r1338+

Thanks for your help.
We know at this point how Joomla is working and how menus can be designed to fit our url startegy.
We are working on a big site (hundreds of contents)
Having one menu by item is (sorry for that) impossible. Proposing this as a solution is quite strange as well.
Joomla URLs principles are : Menu-lvl0-alias/ menu-lvl1-alias/item-alias
When no menu alias is found, indeed, the cat-id is added so we could have 'cat-id-cat-alias/item-alias'. Cat-id is important to create a single path.
As far as I know, I haven't seem the item-ID-item-alias.
One important thing at this point is to understand that aliasing is key.Having duplicate alias is dangerous.

To migrate correctly from joomla content to flexicontent, we must be able to set the same strategy for URL otherwise, all indexed contents will be lost after migration.
Having menus for Categories and creating a single url for all items like :
cat-menu-alias(or cat-id-alias if no menu)/sub-cat1-menu-alias(or sub-cat1-id-cat-alias)/../item-alias is key.
If we cannot set a given url startegy based on menu-alis/item-alias, it will become impossible to migrate large site on flexicontent as all the indexation form google will be lost with large business impact.

We know also that we can use SEO tools, htaccess as a workaround but believe me, it is not a solution for large site. The best is to keep the right URL startegy. At this point we have stop our migration as it will be to risky for us. We provide new content with flexi whilst keeping old one in joomla : Not so good.

My point of view is that flexi must have the same behavior than Joomla in term of managing SEO URL.
Making this should be feasible.
Perhaps, we can help.
If we could better understand how it is (it should) be designed, we could be able to help.

-- FLEXIcontent allows multiple categories per item, so category id in the URL is needed.

This has various benefit
e.g. for example you can have 4 featured categories and assign item to all or none of the (while J2.5 only has one featured flag)
(we have though allowing some categories to be displayed as checkboxes to be more user-friendly when selecting such categories)

-- FLEXIcontent by default enables canonical tags for items and categories, and also automatically redirects com_content URLs, so you have choice not change your menu items. Do what you find more beneficial

Best Regards

Hello,
I have same problem with Joomla 1.5.26 and Flexi 1.5.6 RC8 1496.

Url like this:

homepage/category/category/id-subcategory/id-item

while, with the previous configuration, Joomla 1.5.26 with Flexi 1.5.5, I obtained this:

homepage/category/item/id-item

or

homepage/category/sub-category/item/id-item

(sorry for my english)

The menu item that points to a FLEXIcontent item cannot be matched if it does not contain the same category cid as the current category cid of the item

This happens because
1. you either linked to the FLEXIcontent item via filtering a different category,
2. or you moved item to a different category,

-- Open the unmatched joomla menu item that points to e.g. your FC item no 451 and check the cid value in the URL (category id) ,

if it is different
1. click to reselect a FLEXIcontent item
2. first by the desired category
3. select the FC item
4. save the Joomla menu item
