also the same work has made the "path" of images generic
to allow using
Joomla media manager too
this becomes important because it seems that Joomla media manager may get:
- image editor (crop, resize etc, (for the original image))
- tags (of J3)
- ACL
so work on image/gallery field involves more that supporting intro/full images
about v2.2.0, it was tested for large sites, it is now possible to install in very large sites 100,000 - 500,000 items, a lot work on high performance

I see that the Universal Content Module for FLEXIcontent has an option to use article images. But I cannot see any way how one can show an article image inside a FC template. With all other core fields that is possible.
Is it perhaps possible to get the image path into a text field and then trigger a plugin to show the image ?
If so, what is the field name of the images ? item->..... ?
As the whole site is running on FC I would hate to use some third tool.
