Multilingual solution, again...

Hi,

just a quick question. I cannot wait any longer until some solution like JoomFish for multilingual pages pops up. Is it possible to use the built in Joomla system together with FlexiContent? If yes, I would go this (more complicated) way forward!

mmm FLEXIcontent does not prevent you from using the joomla way in regards to language, do you have a specific question/suggestion ?

Like the our support? (for a bug-free FC, despite having a long list of functions) Like the features? Like the ongoing development and future commitment to FLEXIcontent?

A VERY BIG HELP would be a category (if possible including the items) duplication function. If I had this, it would be a great help to start with translation and using the native multilingual Joomla solution. The Joomla menu management allows to copy all menu items to another menu including to set a new language!

Well, of course JoomFish support would be best, but I have to start translating and cannot wait. So I believe going with the internal solution is the best way (By the way, more and more "helping to organize"solutions pop up: KMFasTrans).

What about using a single category structure with category language set to "ALL" and translating the title and category the old Joomfish way with Falang?

This will minimize the work needed to maintain the site

I know, but there are a couple of thoughts going to my mind:
  • I normally using as least 3rd party components as possible due to security and other reasons. Even to use FlexiContent was a big step for me. I only used it because it is using com_content, so at least I keep my articles if I have to give up FC some time.
  • And the need to give up even popular extensions happens. Look at JoomFish. Just because the lead developer does not have enough time the project is kind of comatose.
  • This is a personal point. I just don't like the attitude of people that "steal" code and sell it. I know JoomFish is open source and I now Falang is available in a free version (with backlink), I still don't like the attitude. By the way, I have supported some component developers with donations and I have no problems with paid subscription plans at all.
So, with this background I am planning to use the native Joomla system.

@rooney
joomfish isn't compatible with flexicontent actualy ?

FLEXIcontent is Free but involves a very big effort on our part.
