How to show content in a flexicontent category page

Hi,
i just cannot understand how to show content in a category view page with Universal content module. How to dynamically bind to the current category?

the universal content module can list content based on the current category of the item currently being displayed

there is no parameter for category of the shown by current category view

i can understand some scenarios that this would be needed, it is not difficult to add to them module, just there is no option/parameter to do this in v2.1.3 / v2.2.0

Which module file I have to modify to add this functionality?

if you want to do this then

-- you can duplicate our module:
mod_flexicontent

... and of course
1. rename the duplicated folder/files
2. rename the class name,
3. and then modify the file
helper.php

I modified the universal module to show up items in the category view.

Now i want to create a new template to show items in a custom way.
I see that in news.php custom fields are accessed in this way:

<?php foreach ($item->fields as $k => $field) : ?>


But if I try to access $item->fields, php says the $item has no fields attribute. Why?
