I have found the culprit and tested many times to make sure. I had installed a plugin a while back named SubmitMailerPro that was causing the problem. When this plugin was turned off Flexicontent would work and when turned back on it didn't.

Hope this helps someone in the future.

FLEXIcontent is Free but involves a very big effort on our part.
Like the our support? (for a bug-free FC, despite being huge extension) Like the features? Like the ongoing development and future commitment to FLEXIcontent?
