How to get a list of featured items

Hello,

We would like to get a list of featured items of a particular type programmatically.

We would also like to get a list of items of a particular type sorted by the published date programmatically.

Is there any way to do this ?

We are using Flexicontent 3.2.1.12

sorry don't understand you have done a custom field ? you want to display in category view or a module ?

We would like to display this in a category layout. But we are already getting filtered items in the category layout. Additionally we would like to get all the featured items regardless of whether they appear in the filtered list or not.

Maybe I should explain a bit more.

I have set up a category and filters etc. In the category layout page I am displaying the items resturned by the filters.

Additionally, in the header section of the category layout page I would like to display a combination of featued items and items that are recently published (regardless of whether these items appear in the filterd list or not).

Is there any way to do this?
