Filtering Features / Live search/filter hinting

Hello all,

First time user and poster.

I'm trying to figure out how to get the search/filtering to work without needing a submit button. I would like flexi to make suggestive search strings that appear just beow the search field. Typical to many sites where as you type it makes suggestions. Or, when you change a filter setting, it sends the request on change, not on click of submit.

I hope that makes sense. Here is a link to the page I am working on. I've seen this done on a site with Flexi, but now sure how they did it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello

-- all fields that are marked as "text searchable" will be added to Basic search index and then will be used in text search autocomplete

-- and you do not need "tag-like" appearance for having text - search auto complete, better use "simple text box"

Just make sure in search indexes you have created "Basic search Index".

About hidding the button, are you speaking of search box in category view , or of search box in FLEXIcontent search module, or of search box in FLEXIcontent filtering module ?

Thanks for the reply, I really appreciate the help.

Unfortunately I'm a total newb to Flexi and still can't seem to get it to work. I'm pretty sure it comes down to the indexing (which I don't really understand).

1) When I ensure both basic and advanced indexing has been done, I still am unable to get any search results.
2) Do you have to reindex manually all the time? Seems pretty 1987 to me.
3) When I select to have them in the search (click the red circle in field view), it just ends up looking like a blue plug. Click once, plug disconnected. Click again, connected. Obviously I have left it as connected, but still no search results.

What my end goal is:

- Be able to search content. Right now I get nothing when I hit enter after entering my search string.
- Not have to hit enter when searching... kind of like live searching. When I type in search field, I want it to make suggestive searches in a drop down.

Not sure if that will help you in helping me, but hopefully.

Thanks again for your help!

Hello

1. an item and thus also the word-autocomplete may not be included in the text search
- if it is unpublished, or expired or
- if besides text search you have also activated other filters (this does not apply to text auto-complete)
- if it does not match the allowed access level(s) of the current
--> for auto-complete the current category is also used

2. re-index all the time ? you never need to re-index , unless you change configuration
change configuration = add or remove a field in text seach

3. after you click on the icon and the plug connected appears,
which indicates that you have changed configuration to include or exclude the field,
and you need to re-index

-- every time you save existing / create a new item the search indexes are updated automatically

Hello

Please read my above message,

also i tested
there are some 3rd party extensions that can break parameter "Use auto-complete"

-- to see if that is the case for you test by setting parameter "Use auto-complete" to "Tag-like" instead of "Simple"
if it works with "Tag-Like" then it maybe that some 3rd party plugins have broken the "simple",
it can happen that they can even break "Tag-Like"

please put the website online and post a link to the frontend category view that uses the text search

[UPDATE] i have not seen that you had given a link to the web-site,
the reason for text-search autocomplete not working, is that in your case you have a JAVASCRIPT error during loading of the page,
which stops further execution of javascript

the error is inside script.js of your template, temporarily test again with Joomla default template
