[SOLVED] Readmore Link only if neccessary

For parameter "Strip and cut", you have 3 choices:
- No
- Yes, force read more
- Yes

please try using the 3rd option


-- you can set this parameter globally for a template in the template manager ,
by editing the Category layout of 'blog' template (or of copies of it)

that is option i am using. It is cutting the text correctly after 30 characters, but does not show a "readmore".
The "readmore" is in this case only shown, if manual inserted.

Yes, after some experiments with these preference i have made all this related preferences to use standard/global and only in template preferences i made these selections. By the way, this was a good idea, to put these in template preferences

on this site you can see the "missing readmore issue" too: LInk

The description text is cutted correctly and "..." is added to the text. So obviously the function itself is working fine, but the link "readmore" is missing. All preferences are as you proposed and that way it makes logical sense. I would be happy, if you could take a look at this issue too

indeed before cutting we do know how many text exists before cutting it[/b],

... e.g. we can add an extra by reference parameter to the function that will indicate to the template if the length of the text before cutting

thus besides criteria
- fulltext exists
we can also have criteria:
uncut_length > cutting_length
