I wonder if it is possible to add and remove items from the frontend.

Is it possible to add a column in the list of items in the administrator area?

Yes you can
add/trash (or archive/unpublish/etc) items from frontend
(but you can not completely delete them, no parameter to enable this)

-- the above is
a. a global component parameter
b. that can be configured differently per category
c. the add button is controlled by ACL (create privilege in component/category and ... create privilege per content type !! too)
d. in (upcoming) v2.1.3 you can submit automatically related items, (every item) that has a relation field can show an "Add button" to submit a related item e.g. submit a "review" to a product

-- yes go to Component configuration, inside the TAB "Backend managers" and add custom fields as columns (please read popup description of parameter and experiment a little adding custom fields) almost all built-in field can be displayed in a backend items manager column

I'm sorry but I can't find where this parameter is. flexicontent version is 2.1.r1793 and joomla! is 1.5

Thanks

I need this version of Joomla that is obsolete in this case.

I am preparing a new website in Joomla 3.2.2 using custom PHP code, but i haven't finished it yet.
