How to hide the subcategories prefix ?

Hi,
I'd like to customize the appearence of subcategories in a select list : how to hide or change the ".|_" prefix?
I find it somehow ugly.

have something that everybody likes would be great,
but i don't see a choice that would please everybody
the |_ is very readable and you can quickly find the parent of a category


To answer your question,
there is no configuration option to change this
is it worth adding, i see very rare need for this

out of curiosity what would you suggest instead of |_
?

Actually, I'd prefer something like a single "-", and "--" for sub-sub-categories and so on... I guess regular Joomla! uses that way. But you definitely have more experience than me on that point.

Actually, I don't 'REALLY' need this. This was only a classification issue between regular articles, edited through backend by admin and "projects" edited through a frontend form.
I will configure my site to only have one level of categories visible on backend.
