Date field not storing value

I have an install of Flexicontent (1.5.2 stable).

I have created a date field 'Closing Date' with the following settings:

Date Format: Custom
Custom Format: %Y-%m-%d
Allow Multiple: no
Max items: 1
Field Sep: Line break

The field is published, and appears in the item, but when I select a date from the picker (say 2010-07-22) the date is not saved and appears blank when I reopen the item.

Is this a known issue?

Disabling versioning didn't work for me but the update did.

-desactivated joomla gzip
-purged expired content and joomla cache
