install default fields?

I uninstalled, then reinstalled, and slowly went down the list of post install check boxes (in order, as suggested), and now they all work

(but I'm still having trouble with the warnings)

I am using version Flexicontent 1.5 beta 5,
Joomla 1.5.2
Apache version 2.2.13 (Unix)
PHP version 5.2.10
MySQL version 5.0.85-community
Operating system Linux

1.5 beta5 OR 1.5 beta5a?

the "a" being a really big part there, as the first 1.5 pack was corrupted

The zip file I used was 1.5 beta5a, but when it is installed it shows up on the home page as FLEXIcontent version 1.5 beta5

I have reinstalled again, and during the installation I was given a list of warnings such as "JInstaller::install: The language file 'fr-FR.plg_flexicontent_fields_checkbox.ini' could not be installed because the Administrator language package for 'fr-FR' has not been installed or does not exist." which I assume relate to French language files... I might also track these down and see if it makes a difference?

OK - I installed the french language files - didn't make a difference, but I didn't get the warnings either

Problem disappeared after creating a menu item

I too have this problem.

Installed Flexi-content this morning and "Install default fields" is showing red in Post-installation checklist

Uninstalled and re-installed components to confirm that there were no errors during install.

The Post install checklist says:
Publish all plugins [Update]
Install default type (article) [Update]
Install default fields [Update]
Install multilingual support
Install versions table
Update versions data
Set phpThumb cache permissions [Update]
Cleanup template files
Database cleanup
Add the items current versions

I know how to "Publish all plugins" and I can create a new type called 'article'

But how do i "Install default fields" and "Set phpThumb cache permissions"?
