Hello

- create a universal module

- select news template in the 1st tab (or other template)
and set featured items:0 and standard:3

- inside "Select Items" TAB,
enable category Scope and select "items in same category"

- inside "Select fields" TAB,
disable all extra fields except the title

read the tooltips for more info
