Cannot move fields in the template

I'm using Flexicontent 1.5.3c and Joomla Joomla 1.5.20.

I am trying to add custom fields to a template.
Here's what I'm doing:

1. Click icon to copy template, name it, save it, and open it (item layout). Problem #1: When I click Duplicate, the little spinning icon won't stop and I've let it go for 10 minutes. So, I go ahead and click "close & refresh" before it's finished.

2. Click "item layout" and view the template with empty zones.

3. I bring the cursor over the fields and it changes to the 4 pointed cursor. But I can't drag the fields! The text highlights like I'm selecting text... that's it.

I can't drag core fields or custom fields. I've tried duplicate and original templates. I've tried Internet Explorer, Chrome, and Firefox.

I don't think I've tweaked any settings to screw this up. Any help would be appreciated.
