Problem Creating Short SEF URLs

Hi, We have been having a problem on the worldnewstrust.com site since upgrade to Joomla 4 where are not able to create short sef urls. This messed up our Google indexing. We were using sh404sef in Joomla 3 to create short sef urls. The settings in flexicontent for short sef urls do not seem to be working. This may have been caused by the JA Listing module that came with a template we are using. It is not compatible with Flexicontent. We uninstalled the module, to no effect. We are trying 4sef, the Joomla 4 version of sh404sef, but that's not solving the issue either.

Can someone suggest where the problem may be? Do we need a plugin for this? Please advise. --Francis

The worldnewstrust.com site is generating a number of sef urls for each story. For example, here are several of them. There are more, as the story appears in a number of Flexicontent categories:

We only want the last, short, url. The Flexicontent settings for short sef urls do not seem to work. The 4sef component we added is creating short sef urls, but also all the other long urls. How do we cause the site to shorten the longer sef urls? Or, to determine why Flexicontent sef url -- and/or the 4sef url -- settings are not working?

I am a journalist working with a developer on the site. He can't find the problem on his own. Where should I look to fix this? Please let me know any other info you need. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks.
