I've just completed a migration and update of a Joomla site.

Joomls 3.8.11
PHP 7.2.0
MySQL 5.7.20
Apache

Everything seems fine except for 1 issue, categories are not populating when adding a new or editing an existing Item (article). I've run into this problem before and think it it something relational in the database. Perhaps a changed value somewhere that links the categories to items. Any help as to where to look? Attached is a screen shot of what I'm seeing. Just need my categories list to repopulate again.

Hello

go to types manager and edit you item type
then go to authoring TAB and configure the parameters for allowed category (categories allowed for this item type)

especially check if you want to allow the category of subtree

in newer versions, by default the category of the subtree is not allowed
