[SOLVED] About "Edit layout and global parameters" : How to have different Layout per category

Hello,

I have a little problem to understand how this function really work.
I explain : we can display fields on category view by placing it in the "table" area (in Edit layout and global parameters).

It works but the fields are displaying on all categories that share the same template. And this is not convenient, because I want to display some fields on certains categories views, and some others on others categories, not the sames for all categories of the same template.
In short, it will be nice if we can affect the fields placement on each category rather than on each template.

Is it possible to do this ?

Thank you again. :)

Hello

- go to FLEXIcontent "Templates" manager (backend)
- click to duplicate the desired template and give it an appropriate name
- go to your categories, (edit the parent of the categories) and select the new template name

So,
- now you can customize it and have a different look
- you can also edit its HTML files and CSS if you want

(note for the child categories to inherit the template from their parent categories, in component configuration the parameter "Inherit" must be by all parent categories and not just inherit from component)

Hello ggppdk, thank for your answer.

I know the tip to duplicate templates but I would prefer the way I describe in my last post.
Sorry, in my last post, I confound types and templates, but it will be nice if we don't have to duplicate templates each time we want differents fields placement on differents category view.
Just by placing them in category parameters "Edit layout ans global parameters".

So, why the field placements can be done in category parameters AND in template parameters ?
It should just be in templates parameters, because we can't place fields freely in category without affecting all the categories that share the same template. It's not logic for me, but maybe I don't understand well.

Sorry for my english, and thank for your answer.

Hello

if you mean have multiple configurations per template ?

Such a work has been prepared mostly already

- DB tables have been already converted folder='blog' , cfgname='somename'
- DB model is already accepting the above by now forces a 'cfgname'=''

The work to be done is to allow the template manager to have 2 more actions
- "Create new configuration" (for a template)
- "Convert configuration to 'template'" (which means also duplicate the filesystem folder)
- Other function ?

Reason for having configurations are

- performance of (* but in v3.0.14 / 3.1.0 this was heavily optimized, so now this less important)
- maintaining less files (* but this you can overcome by editing the template files, making them empty and doing call a PHP "include")
- for CORE templates all your template copies will not need manually updating to bring them up to latest version

Still finishing this work is in low priority, we have other priorities (of almost finished features for FC PRO version):
- Endless scroll
- Reviews
- Automatic relations field
- Calculation field that is searhc-indexable (this is different than using a field layout file to do custom displaying)
- other * ...

Hello

in short

it is not implemented yet

- currently you have to go to templates and duplicate the template
and then select it in your category configuration and save
and then click to "Edit layout and global parameters"
