Hello

I had a question regarding using custom fields on slave sites. I have a category called Offers where all items are shared across a number of slave sites. On each slave site I wanted to display content unique to each slave site below the main Offers copy I thought if I created a custom field for each slave then entered text in those fields it could be displayed by creating a flexicontent template for each slave site.

For example I create two custom fields - slave1a & slave1b. I then create a flexicontent template and add those two fields to a new template called slave1. When I link each Offer item in slave1 I use that template.

My thinking was for each slave site I create custom fields slave2a, slave2b, slave3a, slave3b etc then using a new template each slave could display unique content on all offers items. Should that work? I have tried but not sure if I did it correctly. Or is there another way to do this?

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Hello

so you are already share most DB tables of a Joomla installation in a multi-site ?

and you want to use FLEXIcontent in such an installation ?

Hi

Yes at the moment we are building the first slave and all database tables are shared. At some point we will add a new table for each for users but all content from Offers will be shared. Each slave site will have 5 or 6 pages not shared.

I was hoping I can create custom fields to be used for each slave site and was hoping I can call them by adding the custom field to a flexicontent template then assign that template to the item. Is that possible?

Thanks

Hi

I have a number of shared items in a category called offers and have assigned a modified flexicontent template called offers to it. If I want to share those on a slave site and wish to display custom fields specific to that slave site can I create another modified flexicontent template and assign it to a new category (offers2) specific to that slave site? I have tried that but the slave site is using the offers flexicontent template, its primary category. Will this work or have it done it incorrectly?

Thanks,
Chris

Hi

Yes appears to be so. I may be doing something wrong but wanted to check if in theory that's possible.

For example I create custom fields offer_details1, offer_details2, offer_details3 using the wysiwyg editor. I then add an image, text and link to a shared offer. I then create a modified blog type template for each slave and call offer_details1 for slave1, offer_details2 for slave2, etc. I assign these templates to a slave site category. My thinking was on slave1 I would see offer_details1 etc. However when I tried that slave1 was using the offers flexicontent template which is the primary category for all items in Offers which is the category for all shared content.

The other ticket I opened regarding double URLs comes in to play here as well. To link to an offer item in the offer_details1 etc field I first added those as child items to the category menu so I could link to them. Is there a better way to do that or to achieve this?

Thanks,
Chris
