Hi there,

I have created a category fruit and I have apples subcategory and I have a green apple product under apples category.

I created a menu for the subcategory apples.

Now when I visit the green apple this is the link I get

apples/item/green-apple

How can I get rid of this item in the url?

I managed to get rid of it by creating a menu under the parent menu of apple and that fxed my problem.

is this the right thing to do?

This makes the process a bit longer because..

The user needs to submit item.
Then needs to create a new menu under this main menu link(category that is linked as a menu), and link to this single item green apple...

Thank you.

Hello

FLEXIcontent URLs are built like this for a good reason, e.g. in your particular case no menu item exists that point to the Content Item, plus length 1 after MENU ALIAS means = category URL, and length 2 after MENU ALIAS means item URL, so the 'item' is added there to make it a length of 2

please read carefully these 2 FAQ articles, they explain everything you need to know about FLEXIcontent URLs

1. Structure of FLEXIcontent SEF URLs

2. Creating shorter/nicer SEF urls and structure of item URLs

3. How is current FC menu item decided & selected ?

I dont mind setting up menus for each item but my problem is I have got a multi domain setup.
extensions.joomla.org/extensions/core-en.../multiple-sites/7557

SO I will also need to assign a different template for each menu , will I?

I was thinking to show articles so that it can grab it from the php tag component of that particular template.

Since it will create these urls, it is not a good option for me.

Hello

We did not say to use menu items, it is only mentioned as an option,
-- in fact, we recommend to prefer these SEF links with 'item' they are a quite good-trade-off and they do not need to be altered (e.g. creating a menu-item, only create a menu item for some important pages of your web site , e.g. 'policy' article, etc)

So, the item is not a bad segment to appear in the URL, taking into account that:

-- we follow some consistent rules for creating SEF links withing the Joomla Framework abilities. They were created like this after a lot of hard work and thought, i mean after thinking what is possible , what is possible without using a DB to store links and what is possible without breaking compatibility

e.g. the chain of menu item aliases must be present in the breadcrumb

The SEF links are created in 4 ways

1. use segment length (AFTER menu item) to decide the view, thus
a. 1-length view is category
(/553-somecatalias/)
b. 2-length view is item
(/553-somecatalias/2421-someitemalias)

2. add the as 1 segment view as part of the URL:
item, tags, favourites, search, etc

3. Use a direct pointing MENU item

4. Use a 3rd party SEF component that combines DB stored links with some rule-based links (as above), e.g. SH404SEF, i don't recommend it, but if you want the SH404SEF will work with FLEXIcontent

About the rest please read the FAQ articles (again, i read such articles multiple times too) and get a better knowledge of the topic

Regards
