The Access Level of Joomla is mainly
for viewing articles
not for creating articles
Please read how Joomla ACL works
it is same in FLEXIcontent just has a couple of more actions
1.
Users will be able to assign content items , in all categories that they have "Create" ACL privelege,
(usually you set this for your top level categories only, if you deny on a top-level category then all sub-categories are denied)
2. Also there are ACL priveleges:
edit (i can edit any item)
edit.own (i can edit item i have created)
edit.state (i can publish/unpublish any item)
edit.state.own (i can publish/unpublish items i own)
...
e.g.
-- you can give your users "create" in some categories, so that they create, if you do not give
edit or edit.own
then they will not be able to change the content item later on
-- if you give them
edit.own but not give them
edit.state or edit.state.own , then they will be able to change the content items, but the changes will not be public , until someone with edit.state approves the changes (e.g. administrator views the item and click save, or after viewing the item clicks cancel and then changes state from items manager)
when a user changes the item but he has no
edit.state or edit.state.own then he/she will be warned after saving his/her changes will go through approval,
there are other similar message in the frontend,
