hello
I'm duplicating articles changing nothing firl the original one.

I have seen a problem :
the image/gallery field is not copied, all others are well duplicated.

I'm working with J2.5.8 and FC RCb 1601

best regards

Michel

Yes this is normal, the image files of an image in folder mode are item specific

I understand that this behaviour, may not be desirable for all cases

I'm copying all my articles (for copied articles the facebook problem has desappeared).

Only the images which are specific to the article are not copied. The images which are reusable, of course are copied.

A question : if the article is copied for translation are also the specific images not copied ?

A suggestion : I think it would be better to copy the specific images in all cases : presently I need to search for each article which images are in the original one.

best regards
Michel

If the specific images where good for the copy, no problem nothing to do. If the images are not good, we just need to delete the wrong images. It's less work than systematically search and enter the images. May be a modification to be put on a future release.

mmm for translations, duplicating will be too much wasted space,
so we would want share images but change title / descriptions

i am thinking, should we always share the folder? or use a field parameter to define to share folder or not? will this get things complicated ?

if it's not too hard why not having a common folder for one article in different languages ? But I'm not 100% convinced that the same article has always the same images following the language. For instance if the image is a logo we may have distinct images following the language.
To be sure you answer all problem, may be you need to manage the common folder as you manage the present common one (for all articles).

Is there a way to delete orphans images (images in a common directory which are no more used) ?

To answer your remark about wasting space when duplicating articles and attached images :

When duplicating an article if the original images don't suit the duplicated article the user will delete them and attach new images.
If the images suit the duplicated article he will do nothing.

The present way of working and the way I suggest give the same final result : or we have distinct images (when they are different) or we have a waste of place (when images are identical in both articles.
The difference between copying image or not is that when you don't copy the image you need to re-enter manually all images and all informations like hyperlink, tooltip... (a waste of time and the risk of not copying the tooltip, hyperlink... correctly).

I expect that others user will give their opinion about this subject.

best regards
Michel
