changes in url: get rid of "item" in the url

Since I moved from FC 1.5.6 RC2a (r1057) to v1.5.6 RC9 r1514, all my urls are messed up again Instead of urls like I now get How can i get back my old urls?

-- Your old bookmarked URLs will work
-- Google will have no problem with the new ones since they use the same REL canonical

these URL resemble the URLs of v1.5.4 , when Joomla menu item points to item 's current category

but posting the links in facebook won't work anymore. Facebook throws a 404 when trying to access the url and by the way: who wants to have the word "item" in the url?
I really need the old urls because we get a lot of traffic from facebook - i mean: we used to....

old urls give 404 ??
can you post an example of it (specific to your site?)

try to share on facebook and you'll see what I mean
then you share and viola: it works...

if this would work and i get rid of the "item" i have nothing to object to the urls though after all it' shorter....
