Sort order for categories and subcategories

I've been searching a bit for an answer to this question and haven't found what I'm looking for:

I can sort the items in a subcategory but when I try to sort the parent category I get the message "Sub-categories not included during specific category ordering".

Is it possible to sort the items one order in a category and then a different order in a subcategory? Or is it possible to set the sort order for the items in the category and have that order apply to the same items in a subcategory as well?

I forgot to mention this is using Flexicontent 3.0.14-rc2a on Joomla 3.8.2.

I have updated the component to the latest. The interface changed but I still see basically the same message/limitation.

you can't ordering item in category and subcategorie twice if you use ordering by drag and drop
it's impossible
you can set 2 level of ordering in each category

If I understand you correctly you're saying it can't be done to custom order in a category and its parent category but I can order in the parent category using the settings in Is that right?
