Ideas for content based on category

Our site has ads that run along the right side and 1 at the top. Our flexicontent items have fields that accommodate these spots. The fields are in the Flexicontent Item template. We would like the same options for the categories and I was hoping that the new Joomla category fields might work, but I am not seeing that available. I also do not see a way to add fields in category templates like I have for articles. Any ideas on how this can be accomplished on the 2000 categories we have ?

it was an interesting feature but not planned ...
it possible to create a little hack
1 create an item with field = 1 one for categorie
2 create a relation link between categori to his item description
3 using universal modul to display field with category displayed and item relation

FLEXIcontent is Free but involves a very big effort on our part.

I continue to struggle for a solution on this. I played with the Universal module/relationship idea and wasn't able to get it to work. I am wondering if there is a php solution. Something that will determine the category ID and then display items that are tagged with that ID ? Any takers on helping me get this coded or any other ideas. PM me any quotes as nec.

Hello

so you want to add extra fields to categories ?
  1. why not create a new type "Category info"
  2. and then create 1 item for every category

  3. in every item
    • select as item 's main category the category that you want
    • set item to "unpublished state"
  4. create a universal content module
    • a. Use Type scope (filter) to select to show only "Category info" type
    • b. Use State scope (filter) and select to "include" only "unpublished" state
