Indeed in other places , like in item form we have option to disable / hide the parent category (e.g. category sub-tree for an item type)

- and probably this does not need a parameter at all,
it should be the default behaviour in category view and when there is a single top-level category

Test this change (do not hack any other files ! since this will not be a hack: i will test too and commit later):
in file
/plugins/flexicontent_fields/core/core.php

find:

if ( count($cids)>1 || !empty($globalcats[$_cid]->childrenarray) )

change to:

if ( count($cids)>1)
