SOLVED - Custom field data

Hi,

We are using flexicontent to manage the meta data for a library of around 12,000 documents. We use an external system to serve up the documents in a protected flash/html5 viewer.

We are finding that many of the processes require us to call the same piece of data that exists in one of the custom fields for a given document because of the plugin triggers and functions that we use to make it all work. Is it possible to call that data from another custom field in the same document? Like a small piece of code I could put in place of the actual data?

For instance if field 1 says aabb345.pdf, can I put something like $field1_data in field 2 so that field 2 uses the same data? This would save us a huge amount of time and retyping of data in to multiple fields.

Hello

inside your custom template file or inside the function that creates the HTML display of a field you can use:

$item->fieldvalues[$field_id]

to access the values of any field, thus you only need to store the information in 1 field

see more in our FAQ artice:
Using the raw value of a field inside a template file or inside a new custom field type
