Il me semble me souvenir que dans les versions antérieures, il était possible de configurer l'apparence blog dans la configuration générale de flexicontent :
item en vedette ou non, nombre d'articles affichés par page, 1 ou plusieurs colonnes ...
Mais je ne le retrouve plus.
Aurais-je rêvé ?

b. parent category tree
c. or a specific category

there is not template parameters parameters in CASE: a, but there are in cases: b and c

so "Use global" makes sense for b and c,
