Two Categories With One to Many Relationship in One Template

Hi,

There may be a better and more elegant approach to solving this problem than the approach I am taking. If so I would appreciate any advice. But for the moment I am going to lay out my setup and subsequent request.

First, I have a category called "Products" that lists a number of fields according to the part number. It uses a customized template called "product_items" that uses the items.php file. I have a second category called "Product Orders" that has a one to many relationship with the part number (which is associated with another template called "product_orders"). What I want to be able to do is display the product orders that are associated with the part number, but using the same template that also shows the individual fields in the product_items template.

So for example, if I had a product with the number "CS133", it would show all of the fields that are associated with the Product category, plus also have a table that shows a list of one or many product orders -- whose fields would all be associated using it's identifying field to the CS133 product number.

In any case I am certain I could query the database directly in the template and get everything I need. But I can't help but feel that I am missing some basic concept of how Flexicontent works that would allow me to solve this problem more elegantly. If so I would appreciate the advice!

Thanks ahead of time for everything,

Mike

My apologies as I must have forgotten to set the "Notify Me" checkbox and I thought no one had responded.

As it turns out I ended up coding a solution that is working for my situation. It is hard for me to say for sure without looking into it further whether or not your suggestion would work -- it probably would.

In any case I appreciate the responses. Should I run into another situation where I need to do this I will look into your solution before resorting to writing my own code again.

Many thanks!

Mike
