Article Database? was created by Lift
Hi,
I am in the early stages of converting a thousand page website to Joomla and need to know if FLEXIcontent can be used to create an article database as follows. I have a health and fitness website that deals with
Training
Diet & Weight Loss
Contest Prep
Supplements
Motivation
and other topics.

My goal is for the visitor to be able to select the topic from a menu and then have all relevant articles (including graphic if possible) to be returned in the results. I have included an image of what I would like to achieve.

Please let me know if this can be done with FLEXIcontent.

Thanks,
Lift

Yes, you can do that with a custom template in flexicontent.
The only problem are the tabs, cause there's only one ordering in each view.

Hi Emmanuel,

Would it be possible to create the tabs as a category layout?
Then each tab could be a category with articles.
Sure this request to use tabs will come up again and again.
I could use this too.
Possible ??

Thanks,

Ken

Hummm it's not easy cause it requires either 3 different queries or tabs loaded through ajax.
The new content module is able to do that easily but in the category view it's (much) more difficult.
Let me some time to think about a solution, but I guess it may come with the magazine view in 1.7 ;-)

Here's an idea... You could do it with or without Flexicontent. Here's how if you're using Flexi:

1. Publish 3 different modules that have the desired result to three different positions (example: tab1, tab2, tab3). You can try existing modules like PlaceHere, but for proper urls it's probably best to wait for Emmanuel's new module.

2. Download a plugin that allows tabs in content items (there are several... Joomlaworks has one, and I think RokTabs can handle it).

3. Create a new item. In the main text field or other textarea field, use the plugin syntax to create 3 tabs. In tab #1 put {loadposition tab1}. In tab #2 put {loadposition tab2} and so forth.

4. If you haven't already done it, you'll need to open up the field you are using in the field manager(probably maintext) and enable plugins for it to work.

5. Edit the markup and css for the tabs plugin (and modules) to taste.

A couple considerations:

I'm not sure if all tabs plugins will allow the loadposition command in them, but I'm sure you can either find one that will or some similar solution that can place a module in a tab.

I'm not sure this would be the best idea for very high traffic situations, but it should be fine for the average site.

Hi,
With the new module it will function out of the box as it allows multiple ordering.
The only problem you will face is the pagination. No module will paginate your data :(
