I'm trying to figure out how all these fit together. Is it possible for you to add a diagram to your features menu that shows the relationship between categories, items, types & fields?
I am not going to draw a diagram, but I can give you some infos
An Item is the combination of fields and belongs to a category
So at the top of the structure, you have categories, in which you have items. each item can belong to one or more categories, you choose it as you want . For each item, you have as many fields as you want, each field being an information you want to display or need to use for other specifications. The fields can be texts, checkboxes, images, links ....
