Need code for counting items in category was created by joomla123lt

I have one category, which has records constantly added.
I need a simple (I guess) PHP code, which counts items in specific category.
BTW - it is possible, that all the items are deleted and 0 is remaining (that's for the second type of category).

FLEXIcontent is Free but involves a very big effort on our part.
