FLEXIcontent is Free but involves a very big effort on our part.
Like the our support? (for a bug-free FC, despite being huge extension) Like the features? Like the ongoing development and future commitment to FLEXIcontent?

Yes migration from J1.5 to J2.5, is planned soon after final version of v1.5.6 and v2.0, we have delayed the final release, due to 3 reasons:
-- lack of time
-- to add more features
-- to support J2.5 in FC v2.0 final

Currently, no migration is planned for transfering FLEXIaccess permissions.

Regards
