Change Access level when button is clicked!

Hello,

Basically, I want to display a button in item view(not item form view) and this should be accessible only by author. When the item is no longer available/sold out then author can simply click a button in front-end item view.

When the button clicked by author, message will be displayed in same position(or change existing text field's access level from author to public) and the message will be available in public,
e.g SOLD OUT, No Longer Available, Negotiating, Updating, Coming Soon.
The message will be removed if author click the button again.

This will be very useful for author to change status of item.
I guess Dropdown field will be better than button coz we can set more than one messages.

Hello,
do you mean similar to the way we do, via the item list of the backend items manager ?

In backend you can change the Access Level via a drop-down without need to edit and save the item

And since you speak of Access Level, note that v2.0.3 has these classes in all item listing (category/tags/search/etc)

class="fc_itemcat_21 fc_itemcat_42 fc_item_no_access"
or
class="fc_itemcat_21 fc_itemcat_42 fc_item_has_access"

- thus with CSS classes:
fc_itemcat_21 fc_itemcat_42
you have you can place special styling e.g. a background image for featured category (e.g. category 21 is 'Recommended' or category 42 is 'Best Value')

- and with CSS classes:
fc_item_no_access fc_item_has_access
you have you can place special styling for inaccessible / accessible items

... and maybe we should also put this class:
fc_item_acclevel_4

to allow styling with access level too ?

Yeah that's right, like the way of access level in backend.
I want it to be displayed in frontend and visible to author only.
This will make much difference from other CCK! :D

I think I should rephrase this coz I feel I didn't make myself clear enough on what I meant.

I want to have a select field that only author can change its access level in frontend view, means change ACL of the select field, not item(article) itself.

e.g create a Select field
- Set ACL to item author.
- Field elements: in stock, a few left, sold out

Once item(article) is published to public, this select field isn't available to public.
If Author change select field's value to "SOLD OUT" in front-end view, then this select field's ACL will be changed to public and display as "SOLD OUT".

Hello,
so you speak of editing a field outside item form,
this is not implemented/supported,
originally i thought you want to edit the ACCESS level like in backend !

I understood..
Hmmmm, so there is no way to change a field value from frontend item view(not item form).
It is gonna be very convenient for authors if they have to edit single field for lots of items coz they don't need to access item form.
Hope to see it later version. :)
