Can Items automatically use the Categoy layout?

Sorry if this is a stupid question.

I've got a "Projects" category. The category uses the "Projects" template. Whenever i add "Project" items, I have to manually choose the "Project" layout. While it's nice to be able to override the layout on a per-item-basis, I want the default layout to be the layout for the category.

I want the "use global" setting to be "use the template in the category settings".

Is this a setting I've missed? If it's not implemented as a feature, I'd appreciate if someone point me to where in the code the template-choosing logic is, and I'll make a patch.

I you have a type of content 'Project', you can edit this type and choose a default template for all items of this type in the parameters.
