Displaying flexicontent items in modules

How can I display flexicontent items into modules positions in my Joomla template. For example, let's say I created a "quote" content type and I want to display a random quote as a sidebar in my site. How would I go about doing that ? TIA.

pull it from the database write some SQL and insert it into the module always USE Joomla Code and JFactory to retrieve from the database
