[Update: 22/11/2013], the new SSL certificate is now active,
it seems that the reason for flexicontent.org showing a search portal during DNS propagation is:
-- that people accessing the old IP are being served with this search portal by the web-hosting company,
yes it is the web-server of the web-hosting that did this,
very bad policy, and we could not get a straight answer from their support, and it seems that they do this on purpose and not by mistake, we will change webhosting at an appropriate time
16/11/2013: Web hosting changed IP of flexicontent.org
-- flexicontent.org is temporarily (since end of october 2013) at a shared server,
old dedicated server had outdated and possible insecure software we had to move ASAP
So because of having a new server, we asked for installation of SSL certificate on flexicontent.org.
So IP was changed by web hosting company because this is needed for new SSL certificate
... but then (because of other maintaince work needed on their servers) they canceled installation WITHOUT restoring the correct IP, and rescheduled SSL certificate installation to be done at a later date ...)
-- until IP was fixed and --while-- new DNS records propagated ... flexicontent.org showed a search portal for several hours
Web hosting company blames domain name registrar,
but domain name registrar says it is web hosting to blame.
We are not sure who to blame for this, it can be the
DNS server of domain registrar
or some DNS server in the middle
or Domain server of webhosting company ?
... (it can not be ISP because this effect was global)
that changes the domain does not exist responce (=NXDOMAIN error) AND then CACHES it for hours !!
These are bad practices, what happened to the good old "server not found" ?
- NXDOMAIN error message means that a domain does not exist.
- Some ISPs/Domain Registars/middle DNS servers, started DNS hijacking or DNS redirection for NXDOMAIN error messages.
- It is the practice of redirecting the resolution of Domain Name System (DNS) names to other DNS servers or web servers.
- Commonly used for displaying advertisements or collecting statistics.
- This practice violates the RFC standard for DNS (NXDOMAIN) responses.
What Is NXDOMAIN (DNS responce)?
