Georgios, As we discussed on Skype ...
Note that this is the first draft, what we used to call the "brain dump."
The idea is to get all the data dumped on a page so we can then start discussing, organizing, adding, deleting, prioritizing, etc.

Project Priorities and Goals
  • Improve Marketing Communications - KM - (not that hard since there is virtually none now)
  • Improve quality of FLEXIcontent.org website - to improve project image and better serve users - KM, GP, YB
  • Improve release process, more structured, use Release Checklist - to improve quality and user satisfaction - GP, KM, YB
  • Add priority features most needed now in FLEXIcontent - to help drive popularity and potential revenues - GP, KM, YB
  • Improve perceived quality – Website is a mess + FC interface is a visual mess = perception that FLEXIcontent is a mess (low quality)
  • Simplify use of FLEXIcontent - simplify interface, simplify modules and plug-ins, simplify set-up and configuration
  • Create potential revenue sources - Application Packs, migration fees, and perhaps some commercial extensions

Development Priorities

Georgios
  • Finish performance improvements (address any currently identified performance issues)
  • Finish Chained Selects features - for filters and search modules
  • Add flowing vertical column layout for directory view (or new view)
    - I need this now on FC.org website
    - like Joomla Blog (added J1.5.8) and Mosets Tree (such as on on JED)
  • Add FLEXIcontent Application Packs feature (custom Application Packs could be sold, other CCKs sell them)
  • Add a Joomla Article template and set as default - so initial imported articles look the same as Joomla (easy migration)
  • Improve Import feature - Add Simple Import in addition to current Advanced Import
  • Simple Import = comma-separated quoted fields, one record per-line - (as we discussed on Skype 3/27/2013)
  • Convert to Joomla Update System - this will improve perceived quality, as well as actual quality
  • Option to limit users to a fixed number of items (i.e. 1 entry in a directory)
  • Module - Simple Search - like many directory websites (KM - create module shell, GP - help with guidance)
  • Module - Google Map Summary module for category, with option to include sub-categories
  • Tabs view template
  • Favorites view template
  • Notifications templates
  • Alternative Layouts - make separate views so Alternative Layouts work for all views (such as Author pages)
  • Joomla 2.5 parameters settings interfaces are a cluttered mess (KM to also work on this)
  • Joomla 3.0 interface is a total mess (rethink parameters layout - see Cobalt CCK for ideas) (KM to also work on this)
  • Import from other CCKs - top priority K2 & Zoo - (others to consider - Seblod, Cobalt, ContentBuilder, SobiPro, Pages & Items)
    - make it easy to move to FLEXIcontent
  • Module positions in FLEXIcontent templates - like Seblod - this is useful.
  • FlexiMigrate - update, incorporate, ignore?

Ken
  • Fix visual hierarchy in parameters settings areas
  • Remove visual clutter in field parameters settings areas
  • Help remove visual clutter in all parameters areas
  • Conform field plug-in display names to Joomla plug-in standard naming convention
  • Conform all field plug-ins parameter interfaces to a standard format
  • Module - Simple Search - like many directory websites (KM - create module shell, GP - help finish adding guts)
  • Field Plug-in - YouTube Advanced
  • Field Plug-in - Vimeo
  • Field Plug-in - VideoJS
  • Field Plug-in - AudioJS
  • Field Plug-in - MediaElementJS
  • Field Plug-in - Numeric - with input masks
  • Improve Import page layout

  • Maintain Translations - Transifex

Website Priorities

Ken
  • Improve Home Page - make it a marketing driven entry page
  • Fix menu structure - reorganize this mess
  • Add all orphan content to menus - lots of content is just out in the ether with no way to find it
  • Move Blog to home page?
  • Fix 404s
  • Fix image pop-ups - the problem is there are no pop-ups
  • Content quality - fix typos and mis-spellings
  • Remove useless visual noise and clutter
  • Remove useless fields in content types (use Demo section to show all FC capabilities)
  • Review all tags - remove silly or useless tags - i.e. "FLEXIcontent" is a useless tag on this website
  • Improve visual hierarchy (CSS) - fix styles, add styles if needed - create Style Guide pages
  • Improve visual hierarchy in items content - apply standard styles and formatting
  • Add content templates to standardize content formats - i.e. Content Templater
  • Add Roadmap page
  • Add Release History - summary page and individual release notes pages
  • Create Demo section - there we can show all the features (instead of cluttering-up the actual FC.org content)
  • Fix Download page - should be download only, the release info goes elsewhere, in release notes
  • Fix or remove useless social links at bottom of page
  • Remove obsolete content - i.e. references to Memberships
  • Add some info about the status of FLEXIaccess
  • Add some info about the status of FLEXIcontent for Joomla 1.5
  • Install LessAnnoyingStork admin template

Georgios
  • Make sure all custom templates are up to date
  • Install new FLEXIcontent versions when deemed ready

Yannick
  • Tutorials
  • Maintain Translations

Forum Priorities

Ken
  • Update phpBB3 to v3.0.12
  • Reapply my CSS fixes - apparently some lost in the server move
  • Install modification - Special and Normal Rank Images
  • Watch for spammers - disable spammer users via Joomla User Manager
  • Add a Contributor rank and badge ?

Georgios
  • Continue the fantastic support
  • Watch for spammers - disable spammer users via Joomla User Manager

Yannick
  • Continue the excellent support
  • Watch for spammers - disable spammer users via Joomla User Manager

hello great resume !
a lot of work !!! ;)

Website Priorities
  • actived multilangue !
    |_an idea a link to submit a translation (a button on item) will be great for FLEXIcontent and maybe for community)
  • start a complete doc : we can start a doc by field (step by step) for example
  • update actual tuto (I didn't find a good way to insert code)=> some idea
  • create a monthly newsletter (SVN news, new showcase submissions, new extensions)
  • site menu integration in forum

Development Priorities
  • calendar view (item/category/module)
  • improve templating in universal module (code to easy load a field like item and category)
  • improve universal module : find an other solution for custom attribute, actually all update kill personal option
  • improve administration display on J3.x !important!
  • a system to display many filter in many category without edit each category
(example: if field doesn't display in category, don't display it)
  • Universal Module was really great to generate an item menu, but not for category, it will be good to have a menu template to display a menu list (category, sub-category, item)

Project Administration Priorities
  • change component name : Need more stable mention :
example: a stable by month with only bug corrections and tested function,
and beta mention for SVN version.
Too many beta => not very good for image.

I am waiting for animate conference and workshop about FLEXIcontent in next Jdays in Paris.
I am doing the next Joomla.fr Extensions website ( extensions.joomla.fr ) in J3.2 and FLEXIcontent.

good news about team motivation ! go go go

Maybe we can start some mockup to discuss about interface?

Some additional ideas (old discussions with Georgios)
[mockup] enhanced template feature
www.flexicontent.org/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=75&t=5911
[mockup] Category Management in Item
www.flexicontent.org/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=75&t=5909
[mockup] Powerful front-end administration
www.flexicontent.org/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=75&t=5910
[mockup] Category Management
www.flexicontent.org/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=75&t=6198

FLEXIcontent is Free but involves a very big effort on our part.
Like the our support? (for a bug-free FC, despite being huge extension) Like the features? Like the ongoing development and future commitment to FLEXIcontent?

Hi Yannick,

Nice list!
Thanks for posting your "brain dump" too.
I formatted it the same for better understanding,
and so I can cut-and-paste to create our combined priority list.

Interesting to see what you have vs. what I have,
and it will be more interesting when Georgios responds too.

Few initial comments.

Regarding making FC.org multilingual
I can see how multilingual is appropriate for the documentation as there are doc pages in FR now, and I assume you may add more FR docs.
But do you want to translate the entire website?
Is this a task you would manage and maintain?
Please explain more completely exactly what you want to do.

I would like to get Georgios input on how to do multilingual for just the Documentation category and sub-categories.
When I enabled JoomFish on the old J1.5 website, it really slowed things down.

Or continue to have a FR category for just the FR docs.

Regarding a monthly newsletter
Great idea. Regular communication is essential.
But rather than a formal newsletter we can do a monthly blog item.
The RSS feed for the blog category goes to the Joomla Community News page and into their outgoing RSS feed.
So our blog posts could be seen by thousands.
Probably good to post same info in forum Announcements.
I will add these to my FLEXIcontent MarCom ToDo List (MarCom = marketing communications).

Regarding FLEXIcontent releases
I agree with you that the current releases situation is a cause for concern.
I am going to draft a Release Check List, review that with Georgios to get his ideas and agreement, and hopefully we can have better practices when it come to doing releases.

Gotta go for now, more later ...

i think i can translate all site en FR, and it will be great to use official site to do a best demo of multilangue, maybe juste use native function of j2.5

yes at first just for doc and tuto, i see some german user want to translate

yes acymailling was fully compatible with FLEXI. we can do 4 parts :
SVN and dev news
new doc and tuto
Showcase
Forum return

Good input!

One comment ...
We need to stop using www.flexicontent.org as a demo site.
Activating every FLEXIcontent feature turns the website into a cluttered mess.
Bad for our image.

I would like FC.org to look like any other Joomla website, except it has some really nice features. This will show users that their website will not look completely different, and really cluttered, if they install FLEXIcontent.

We now have Cpanel access so I set-up a demo sub-domain.
demo.flexicontent.org/

This demo website can more clearly demonstrate each feature with explanations.
And do a much better job of showing off all those features.
It can be organized and structured as a comprehensive demo.
Right now the full capabilities of FLEXIcontent are not being shown.
I would be surprised if we are showing even half of what FLEXIcontent can do.
On the demo website we can show everything.

Speaking of demo websites, what ever happened to those guys that wanted to do a FLEXIcontent demo site?
I remember they created that big mockup image.
Would they like to do a mobile demo website now?

We could set-up mobile.flexicontent.org.
Let them demonstrate their talents.
And they could add some links and branding to give them some visibility.
Such as: "This FLEXIcontent mobile demo website created by XYZ Company."

Is that a possibility?

Thanks!

igcorreia propose that (create demo site with good template), maybe i can speak with it to restart it ?
www.flexicontent.org/forum/index ... memberlist
with access admin to test it ? (rebuild base every 30m)

for professional display i am agree but multilangue site is great for professional use
