Hello, I have fixed search filters of advanced search view in r1528+

about customizing categories per Content Type, i guess we could add category field parameters to the Content Type configuration, unfortunately this is not done currently

Concerning the ability to define a different root category for filtering, I'm quiet sure this is a real need for a website heavily using FC for different purposes (As to me, i use it for listing training sessions, press articles, specification sheets... well a lot of different contents, with different subcategories... So it frustrating to have always the same category filter, with ALL categories (even if they are not in relations with the topic) inside)...

Yes FC has major functions now! I hope next step will be to be more visible to the joomla community! This component isn't known enough... Tutorials, a full demo with backend (auto refresh each hour, in order to make test)... In january, i can help if needed (my french is better than my english )
