Clean you tmp folder of your joomla installation

Go to
Help -> System Info -> Directory Permissions tab
and check permissions

Also goto
Help -> System Info -> PHP Information
and search for disable_function, is there any?

Fix above and try again

regarding the PHP info 'disable_functions', i have found this :

disable_functions no value no value

What do I need to do ?

Now, I don't know if it is related, but after I got back from lunch and came back on FC after I tried to upload the last '1.5.6 - preRC3 r1110' version, I landed on a blank page...

Is it normal ???

How can i roll back ?

If I uninstall the component to reinstall it, will it also delete the related database tables ?

If you have data do not unistall because the extended data of FLEXIcontent will be deleted.

Try installing v1.5.4 without uninstalling

About:
-1 - An error has occurred.
It was not possible to copy the selected file.

Your server is either too slow or to busy, the message means that you have a timeout during installation. The v1.5.4 is a little smaller so it barely manages to install before the timeout occurs.
Use a faster or not so busy server, also contact your server administators for moving to a faster server or increasing limits (although i strongly recommend changing server)
