Awesome solution! I'm busy to get this work, but get stuck.
The code works fine, until the line below.
When following line is to be executed, the page breaks.

Code:

$voting = FlexicontentFields::getFieldDisplay($fcitem, 'voting');

mmm , which version you have installed?

try turning on PHP error reporting by putting this line at the top of the file:
error_reporting(E_ALL);

This way we will see php errors, warnings and notices.

Thanks for your fast answer.
I have Joomla 1.5.25 installed and FlexiContent version 1.5.4 stable (r558)

I put php_flag display_errors on in my .htaccess-file and get this error:
Fatal error: Call to undefined method FlexicontentFields::getFieldDisplay() in /var/******/httpdocs/templates/j960/html/com_flexicontent/tags/default.php on line 95

Putting the line error_reporting(E_ALL); seems to have no effect in neither my template index.php nor in templatedir/html/com_flexicontent/tags/default.php
